Breast Cancer Awareness: Symptoms and Procedure

Nowadays, Breast cancer has been gaining interest worldwide as it is the prime reason for deaths among women related to cancer. Various breast cancer awareness programmes have been organized by the health practitioners. Treatment options of cancer rely on the phase of cancer. In case of early phases, one can go for lumpectomy treatment, mastectomy without and with reconstruction plus chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy.
So, which are the best surgical options for the treatment of cancer? What are its symptoms? This post highlights the answer to these questions.
Many breast cancer awareness guides are available in the market which will let you know about cancer. But few of the main characteristics of cancer will encompass the tumor size, whether it could be different tumor grades or hormonal receptors. Furthermore, the age of the patient also plays a vital role in the cancer treatment. For instance, patients whose age is more than 60 years may not approach for the aggressive procedures/treatments.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Symptoms

Sign of Breast cancer
The following are the main three symptoms:
1         Discharge of liquid from the nipple
2         Change in the appearance of breast skin
3         A thickness or lump in the breast
Breast cancer is one such disease which is hard to spot. If you recognize any one of the above-mentioned symptoms, it doesn’t mean you’re suffering from cancer. It is recommended to check your breast on a regular basis and in case you find any symptom go and consult with the doctor immediately.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Procedures

There are 3 primary types of cancer surgical procedures:
1        Lumpectomy: In this technique, the breast part is removed. Radiation therapy can be included in this procedure. In radiation therapy, the cancer cells which surround the lump are generally expelled.
2        Mastectomy: It is the technique in which the soft tissues from the breast of the women are removed. This procedure hurts the emotional state of the women as it gives the flat chest. Those patients who have a family history of cancer mostly undergo this surgery.
3        Breast Reconstruction is implemented to recover the usual appearance of the breast after undergoing a mastectomy or lumpectomy procedure. Reconstruction procedures are of two types and both the methods have their own advantages and disadvantages.
·        During reconstruction implant surgery, the doctor implants some sort of foreign object in the breast. The lacking side of this procedure is that the foreign object is used in implant rather than own tissue. Moreover, it also involves the risk of bacteria, infection, and leakage.
The implant then makes a heap of scratch mark tissue. This, in turn, changes the shape of the breast by becoming thicker and harder.
·        In the second case, reconstruction with own tissue has its pros and cons. In this, as no foreign object is implanted, the risk of leakage is of no concern.
The chances of infection are generally low and the body won’t frame much scar tissue. The limitation is that the patient will have open wounds and scars. This may take some extra time to heal.
